Fantastic final night of the season yesterday. Great performance of Rinaldo, with a few added surprise jokes… I'm still thrilled to have been able to revive this fantastic show with such special artists. This was followed by an exciting presentation of next year's season by Gus Christie.
And Dave Locker's last night as Director of Technical and Production after 35 years at Glyndebourne. Dave first trusted me with assisting for the 2007 Glyndebourne Festival on Nicholas Hytner's Cosi fan tutte. This was followed by assisting on five more productions - and two revivals prior to Rinaldo. Thank you Dave for the trust and friendship.
Below, a round-up of Rinaldo reviews (click on link for the full review):
"I just want to see this marvellous show again - immediately" The independent 5*
"… this time round, I was consistently charmed: my memory isn't sufficiently acute to register the extent to which details have been tweaked or inserted, but in 2014 the exuberant yet precisely choreographed action, complete with saucy gags, farcical pratfalls and laboratory explosions, seemed to strike the right note of playfulness." The Telegraph 4*
"Back in 2011 the show was great, but still felt like a work-in-progress. Three years on, and Rinaldo is back and suddenly everything that was slightly blurry before has snapped into focus and the results are slick and seriously entertaining." The Arts Desk
"As revived by Bruno Ravella, it's even better now, hence that last 'half star' - principally due to the performance of Iestyn Davies in the title role, and a touch more snap to the routines, which are slick, polished and sometimes endearingly camp." MusicOMH 5*
"skilfully revived from its 2011 debut by Bruno Ravella" Whatsonstage 4*
"Carsen's creation is quite brilliantly realised, revived here by Bruno Ravella." Bachtrack 4*
